Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Training
Online Trainings Currently Unavailable
During the summer, students will not have access to the online trainings as we prepare for the 2021-2022 academic year. Students who have trainings to complete will be contacted during the first week of fall quarter 2021 with information on how to complete their training.

While Western has made progress in our efforts to increase equity and inclusion, we recognize that there is still much work to do here and in the world around us. The most significant way we can acknowledge and correct past and ongoing injustices is by accelerating the rate and scope of systemic change in our communities, institutions, and within ourselves.
As a university community, we can support this much needed change by informing ourselves, which is why we are requiring all students to complete this training. As a member of the Western community, you too have a shared responsibility to advance a university culture that is equitable and inclusive. I invite you to take time to really sit with the information in this training, and consider how you can apply it in your life and interactions with others. Thank you for giving these critical issues your time and attention, and for helping make our commitment to increasing justice and equity a reality.
This training provides information on identity, bias, power, privilege, and oppression; the benefits of being part of a diverse community; how to be a better ally, perform self-care, and create inclusive spaces; and Western’s policies, resources, and reporting options regarding diversity and discrimination.
By participating in this training, you will be part of a community of peers and classmates engaging together to build a more welcoming and equitable Western community.

Training is completed over two parts.
Part 1 takes 30-45 minutes to complete and includes an Initial Survey, Course Modules, and an End of Modules Survey.
Fifteen days after completing Part 1, you will receive an email with instructions to log into your EverFi dashboard, access the training and complete Part 2, which takes about 10 minutes.

As a campus community, we can support this much needed change by informing ourselves, which is why we are requiring this training for our students.
All matriculated students are required to complete Western’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion online training. This includes undergraduate, graduate, and post-bacc students, full- and part-time students, and students taking classes at any of Western’s satellite locations.
New students receive detailed instructions on how to access and complete this required training by email from Prevention and Wellness Services (PWS) and EverFi by the start of the quarter or during the first week of classes (this is dependent on when the student has registered).
All students can access the training on the EverFi platform.

You can resolve most issues with one of these steps:
- Switch browsers. Use Chrome or Firefox instead of IE/Edge.
- Make sure your browser is up to date by visiting: www.whatismybrowser.com.
- Make sure to Clear the Cache
- If you seem stuck, your screen may be zoomed in too much causing you to miss a prompt or navigation button. To reset your zoom on a PC type the shortcut Control + 0 and on a Mac type the shortcut ⌘ Cmd + 0.

No, all Western students are required to complete the online training, as it includes information specific to Western’s policies and resources. While some of the information you received in previous trainings may be helpful in reducing risk, bias and violence, the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion required online training is focused on making Western’s community safer.

Yes, for any survey question or questions in Western’s online training, you may skip them, and complete the remainder of the training.
Yes. The course includes surveys to help personalize your experience and measure students’ attitudes and behaviors. All survey responses are confidential; Western will only receive information about the participating student group as a whole and will never see individual student responses.
The training is designed so that you can complete it in multiple sittings. It is divided into smaller mini-segments, or modules. You can complete a module in about 5 to 10 minutes. As long as you complete a module in its entirety, you will be able to log back in later and begin with the next module.
After you complete Part 1 of the training, you must wait 15 days before you can complete Part 2. The training is designed to see what you know before you take it, and the post-assessment in Part 2 checks your understanding after you have had time to process the material. This pre- and post-assessment helps Western to determine if the courses are effective. Part 1 and Part 2 are both mandatory.
When somebody is an employee and a student at the university, the system sometimes makes duplicate accounts and sends different courses to different accounts. Send an email to email@example.com to let us know and we will get that fixed for you.
Technical Troubleshooting Tips
You will need Internet access and audio capabilities.
- Use the most up-to-date version of Chrome or Firefox (the training is not compatible with Internet Explorer).
- If you aren't able to get to the login page at all when you click on the training course link, you may need to clear your web browser's cache.
- If you were able to successfully log on to the site but then nothing happens, you may need to enable third-party cookies and site data in your web browser.
- Disable all popup blockers and 3rd party toolbars.
- Ensure your course is in its own browser window, not within a frame of the school portal or email client.
If the training seems stuck, your screen may be zoomed in too much, causing you to miss a prompt or navigation button.
To reset zoom on a PC: type the shortcut Control + 0
To reset zoom on a Mac: type the shortcut ⌘ Cmd + 0.
Or, you might need to toggle the Play/Pause button or click on an informational button or buttons on the screen.
Internet and Network Issues
If you are on a wireless connection, try a wired connection.
Try accessing from a different network connection (computer lab, home, town library etc.).
Try accessing at a different time of day (during your network’s off-peak internet usage hours, i.e. morning).
Other things to try
Close all other applications and tabs (i.e. iTunes, Facebook, YouTube, etc.)
Full Screen mode: For Windows, press F11. On a Mac, click “View” from the browser’s menu and select “Full Screen”. For Chromebook, press F4.
If all else fails, reboot the computer. And if that doesn’t work, reach out for technical support.
Technical support is available 24/7 and can be accessed from the Help link within the training.
